160 Health Training for Correctional Officer

Correctional officers are often first responders to a potential or actual medical emergency. It is important for correctional officers to be properly educated in basic health care situations, and for early detection of an acute illness or injury to improve patient outcomes. This talk will present a basic training program based on NCCHC standard C-04.

Learning Objectives:

  • Review the compliance indicators for health training for correction officers based on NCCHC standard J-C-04.
  • Outline training content needed to prepare correctional officers to respond to potential or actual medical emergencies
  • Discuss how to integrate video into training sessions for health education of officers
