150 Transgender Inmates Charged With Sexual Offenses: Treatment Strategies

Corrections-based treatment providers face challenges in working with transgender individuals who have committed sexual offenses, with a need to balance sex-offense-specific treatment with the patient’s mental health needs. Meanwhile, lawmakers and corrections officials are tasked with developing policies and procedures that balance the needs of the individual with those of the institution. This talk will examine these issues and use case examples to highlight policies, procedures, and practices, as well as diagnostic considerations.
